Roisi Phelan

Roisi has practiced yoga since 1987.
She initially trained as a yoga teacher with the Irish Yoga Association (IYA), qualifying in 2000.

In 1999 she was introduced to the viniyoga approach to Yoga, as taught to Paul Harvey by his teacher TKV Desikachar, and found it inspirational. Since then she has continued to use the principles of the viniyoga of Yoga within her personal practice and yoga teaching.

From 2000 to 2007 Roisi studied with Hanne Gillespie at Clonlea Yoga Studio. This led her to undertake a professionally accredited four-year (2005 to 2008), Practitioner Training Programme, through the Centre for Yoga Studies (cYs), with Paul Harvey in the UK: to learn both the teaching and therapeutic application of yoga for groups and individuals.

In 2010 Roisi completed an advanced two-year Further Studies Programme, again through the cYs with Paul Harvey, focusing on Yoga psychology, and the therapeutic application of Yoga for individuals.

To further support her work with teaching yoga to groups and individuals, Roisi completed, in 2012, a Higher Diploma (NFQ 8) in Communications, Parent Mentoring and Relationship Studies, through University College Cork.

In 2017 she began an introduction to Trauma Sensitive Yoga, TCTSY, (with the Trauma Centre in Boston); which she continues to study in 2018/2019 for a full qualification to teach Trauma Sensitive Yoga.

Roisi works in private practice, with groups and individuals, as well as having 4 years experience teaching within the Mental Health Services in Dublin. In her approach to teaching yoga she values the importance of creating an atmosphere for emotional safety within relationships.
